THE VALLEY FRINGERS WHO LIVE ON BORROWED TIME

the Valley fringers who live on borrowed time
are feral and have itchy minds
(also, with the mountains calling
children, disheveled and alive)
they believe in Christ and Lennon, both awake,
are invariably interested in so many things-
at the present writing one still finds
resined fingertips hitting is it Freedom?
definitely. While transient faces boldly blurt
reported scandals of Mr. B and Miss R
....the Valley fringers care too much, below
Park City if sometimes in its cupola
star indigo and edgeless, the
little dipper shimmers like a satin quilt

for jess

after "the Cambridge ladies who live in furnished souls"
by
E. E. Cummings:

the Cambridge ladies who live in furnished souls
are unbeautiful and have comfortable minds
(also, with the church's protestant blessings
daughters, unscented shapeless spirited)
they believe in Christ and Longfellow, both dead,
are invariably interested in so many things-
at the present writing one still finds
delighted fingers knitting for the is it Poles?
perhaps. While permanent faces coyly bandy
scandal of Mrs. N and Professor D
....the Cambridge ladies do not care, above
Cambridge if sometimes in its box of
sky lavender and cornerless, the
moon rattles like a fragment of angry candy

I remember this! It's an awesome SLC rendition of Cummings' poem!
